Thanksgiving Grilled Cheese – Martin’s Famous Potato Rolls and Bread

Happy Week of Thanksgiving, everyone! If you’re like us, you’re already craving the classic dinner staples of roasted turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and perhaps your family’s own signature dish. At the same time, you may also be preparing your fridge (and stomachs) for the influx of delicious holiday leftovers come November 26th. Introducing: Thanksgiving 2.0. Don’t get us wrong; we love the traditional Thanksgiving dinner as much as anyone, but there’s something about the day-after meal that just speaks to us. Finding new ways to repurpose your Turkey Day leftovers allows you some creative liberties to incorporate more non-traditional flavors and to switch things up a bit. Our Holiday Grilled Cheese: Thanksgiving Edition does just that! With thick-cut roasted turkey breast, crispy pepper bacon, apple slices, provolone cheese, and savory sage-mayo, all between two slices of Martin’s 100% Whole Wheat Potato Bread, you may even wish Friday was already here! Our Thanksgiving-themed grilled cheese features classic holiday flavors like turkey and sage, combined with fun, fall elements like fresh apple slices, plus everyday favorites like bacon and provolone, making this recipe an easily achievable any-day-of-the-year sandwich. Let’s take a closer look at how to prepare this recipe: The Meat: Oven-Roasted Turkey Turkey is, by far, the most popular meal eaten on Thanksgiving. And whether you’re cooking for four or fourteen, you will likely have plenty of meat left over the next day. (Tip: To make absolutely sure you have enough for leftovers, try to aim for about 1½ pounds of turkey per person when choosing the weight of your bird.) To prepare for your Thanksgiving grilled cheese, reserve 2-3 freshly carved slices, per sandwich, of white meat turkey from the breast. Note: You can also prepare bone-in turkey breast instead of cooking a whole turkey, or simply request thickly sliced turkey from your deli counter, so that you can prepare this recipe any time of year! The Spread: Sage Mayonnaise If you were asked to describe the smell of Thanksgiving, there is a good chance that sage would have a key role to play. This popular Thanksgiving flavor, along with other highly fragrant herbs like rosemary and thyme, is often found accompanying our favorite side dishes, incorporated into poultry seasonings and spice rubs, and generally crafting a comforting and nostalgic aroma throughout our kitchens. Infuse the soothing taste of sage into your holiday sandwich by blending it into a savory mayo-based spread along with garlic, olive oil, and lemon juice. To Prepare: Add 1/3 cup mayonnaise, 2 fresh sage leaves, 1 clove garlic, 1 T. olive oil, and 2 tsp. lemon juice to a food processor. Pulse to combine; set aside until ready to serve. The Toppings: Pepper Bacon, Provolone Cheese, and Green Apple Add some extra excitement to your grilled cheese by layering in some crispy pepper bacon for a hint of spice, plenty of provolone cheese (for the melt factor), and a few slices of granny smith apple for a tart and tangy finish.
