Excusez-moi, a French-themed market is coming to Canberra! Wine, cheese, and truffles anyone? Posted on 8 November, 2022 Have you ever dreamed of escaping to France—the perfume of croissants tantalising your nose, a glass of bubbles in hand as you browse through market stands with the notes of some French jazz drifting on the air? You find a bench and bite into the crusty baguette still warm from the oven, the French cheese is a miracle in your mouth. “Ahhhh,” you sigh “This is the good life—la belle vie!” The good news is there’s no need to book a flight to realise your French dream, all this and more is coming right here to Canberra on Saturday 19 November. The annual Alliance Francaise French Market is bringing France to the capital with over 35 stalls selling every French delicacy and fine product imaginable. Your one-stop-shop to stock up on all your favourite French edible essentials (including wine, cheese, saucissons, truffles, baguettes, croissants, and chocolate), there are also stalls to French-ify your life with French napery and clothing, books, artworks, and jewellery. A treat from ©Miss Macarons anyone?“Stall holders come from all over Australia to bring the best of France to Canberra,” says Alliance française director Nancy Gilles. “The atmosphere is really reminiscent of a typical French market with a mix of fresh quality produce, arts and crafts, clothes, and tableware. You’ll even hear lots of French being spoken between stallholders and our many French-speaking patrons.” Designed to be a day out for the whole family, the French Market will have live music playing all day, plus plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained in a Frenchy way. Open your children’s ears to the French language with a live fairy tale reading in French and English, or let the French scouts entertain them with toy car races and badge-making.What about something from ©W Patisserie? And trust us when we say there’s fun for adults too—it’s the perfect opportunity to head along to try Pétanque (the French version of boules) the Provençale way, with a delicious glass of pastis liqueur in hand. If all this French fun starts to inspire a desire to learn the “language of love,” the Alliance’s French teachers will also be on hand to advise you on the best class for you. Better yet, you can enrol on the day ready for next year and enjoy 10% off. French lessons and French liqueur? To that, we say ‘oui, oui!’ THE ESSENTIALS What: Alliance Francaise French Market When: Saturday 19 November, 10 am – 4 pm Where: Alliance Francaise de Canberra, 66 McCaughey St, Turner
